Samsung's stylish round Moto 360 rival incoming!

Get ready for a smartwatch invasion: Samsung's stylish round Moto 360 rival incoming!
Samsung is already at the forefront when it comes to smartwatches, with the Galaxy Gear 2and Samsung’s Android Wear smartwatches setting the pace. Both are square, however, and it looks like Samsung is about to take on the Moto 360 with a brand new round smartwatch!
One of the great things about Android Wear is that it’s not restricted to one single screen form factor. Look at all the current Android Wear smartwatches though, and one stands head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to style – the Moto 360 – and the stunning round design has a lot to do with that.
It looks like Motorola won’t have things its own way for too long though, with Samsung filing several new patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office for its very own spherical smartwatch range, with the patent drawings looking particularly Moto 360-like.
Samsung could have a number of different designs up its sleeve, with the drawings showing smartwatches that differ in size and shape, but at least one of the drawings bears a particular resemblance to the 360.
If nothing else, the switch to a round face would give Samsung’s smartwatches a more classical appearance, with round Android Wear watches looking a lot more like regular timepieces when not being used for satnav, weather updates or other smart uses.
A new camera location is also shown off in the patents, with Samsung reverting back to a camera mounted on the strap of the watch – just like the original Galaxy Gear.
One of the patents also shows a watch that sits somewhere in the middle – boasting a squared face with rounded edges – could this be the perfect compromise between style and usability?
At present there are no tech details for the smartwatches themselves, and Samsung may even decide to stick with the square designs found on its current range of smartwatches, but fingers crossed it’ll be bringing more variaty to the shops in the not too distant future!
