Amazon’s mortal enemy returns this month

The Nook is back: Amazon’s mortal enemy returns this month with a little help from Samsung!
It’s been a little over a year since bookseller Barnes & Noble conceded defeat and gave up on manufacturing its own Android tablets, but low and behold, the Nook has risen from the dead. Samsung’s teamed up with B&N to resurrect the Kindle Fire rival in the shape of the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook – and it’s coming this month.
The new seven-inch Android tablet will come preloaded with Nook’s ebook software, and be sold in US Barnes & Noble stores when it’s launched later this month. The two companies originally announced their plans to buddy up back in June, but it appears we’ll be getting a closer look on 20 August at a press event to reveal the device.
Details are still thin on the ground, but you can bet that the new Galaxy Tab – which will be a close competitor to Amazon’s Fire HDX 7 tablet – will come packed with Nook software, including its movie, book and app stores, and hopefully its excellent comic book reading software too.
We were huge fans of the dazzling display on the similarly sized Nook HD, if not its somewhat laggy software, so Samsung will have to outdo itself to improve on it. Stay tuned for more in a fortnight on Samsung’s latest Amazon, Nexus and iPad rival.
