Omate X smartwatch unleashed

Watch out Android Wear: Omate X smartwatch unleashed!
Not only does the Omate X smartwatch look stunning, it also works with both Android and iOS-based smartphones. It’s one of the few recent smartwatches to eschew Google’s Android Wear OS, and it may be all the better for it!
It’s been a great year so far for smartwatches, with gadgets like the Moto 360LG G Watchand Samsung’s own techy timepieces basking in the limelight. Things are about to get even better with the introduction of the Omate X – a follow-up to the Omate Truesmart Kickstarter project.
The Omate X certainly has the looks to succeed. Sure, it doesn’t have the stylish round face found on the Moto 360, but it does have a gorgeous aluminium finish, an almost infinite choice of straps (thanks to a standard watch strap size) and some lovely digital watch faces.
The specs are pretty good too. The 1.54-inch touchscreen gets a reasonable 240×240 resolution, it connects to your phone over Bluetooth 4.0, and Omate claims the X’s 400mAh battery will last for seven days between charges – a vast improvement on the current Android Wear offerings. It might have a proprietary OS, but still does everything you could need it to.
Once connected to your smartphone, the Omate X can deliver information like incoming calls, push notifications and messages, reminders, weather updates and more. It may not offer the same sort of customisation as an Android Wear smartwatch, but as long as it can manage the above smoothly and efficiently, we’re happy.
And better yet, the Omate X will be available to pre-order next month with a price tag of just $129 (£77) – a snip compared to most rivals. Interested? Find out more about the Omate X on the company’s website.
