Super-thin Lenovo Tab S8 Android slate

Super-thin Lenovo Tab S8 Android slate unleashed with an equally slim price tag!
With the annual IFA tech show about to kick off, get ready for gadgets galore – but Lenovo has opted to announce its latest slate right before the tech extravaganza even gets started. Meet the Lenovo Tab S8, a slim-line slate that packs in a host of impressive features – from a full HD screen to a svelte, sub-8mm design, all for under $200 (£121). Interested in this low-cost iPad Air rival? Read on to find out more.
It may have a budget price tag, but the Lenovo Tab S8 packs in some seriously impressive hardware, and rivals like the pricier Nexus 7 had better watch out, as this could be the bargain tablet to buy. The suave Tab S8 rocks an 8-inch screen with a 1920×1200 resolution, and its skinny chassis weighs in at just 294g, making it a great choice for frequent travellers. Sure, the display can’t compete with the pin-sharp screens found on tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S, which boasts a 2560×1600 resolution display, but at this size, images and text should still look incredibly crisp.
Aside from the HD panel, you can also look forward to an 8-megapixel snapper on the back, a 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera and 16GB of onboard storage – perfect for video calls and all your apps and games. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 are both present and correct, and you’ll also be able to add 4G/LTE connectivity as an option. Its quad-core Intel Atom processor which can hit speeds of 1.86GHz and 2GB of RAM should help to punt the Android 4.4 KitKat OS along at a decent rate – although Lenovo claims its battery life will only last around seven hours for the Tab S8, which is rather disappointing.
Still, you’re treated to a couple of Dolby-branded speakers onboard, turning the compact tablet into the ideal portable media player, and although none of the specs on their own help the Tab S8 to stand out in an increasingly competitive market, it all adds up to a compelling choice when the sub $200 price is taken into account. It’s set to hit stores later this month, but there’s currently no word on UK pricing – we’ll keep you informed as soon as we hear more.
