Meet the phone-controlled robot

Sphero Ollie: Meet the phone-controlled robot that can unleash tricks!
You may remember Sphero as the tiny robot ball that can be controlled by your phone, but now it’s about to get a bigger brother known as Ollie that can go even faster, and can bust out all sorts of tricks too! Fancy one of these? Read on for all the details!
Meet the latest member of the Sphero family, known as Ollie, which packs in all the same robotic smarts as its little brother, but it’s capable of doing a whole lot more. The guys behind Sphero have engineered the latest robotic toy for high performance speed, and it’s capable of performing tricks too, all thanks to the individually controlled ‘wheels’ on the sides. Just like the original, its also built to take a beating, thanks to its durable polycarbonate shell.
Once you’ve paired up the Ollie to your iPhone or Android blower via its built-in Bluetooth LE, you’ll be able to fire it up to speeds of 14 MPH on all sorts of surfaces, and it can spin, drift and even jump at the swipe of a finger. Sphero has also created apps you give you feedback on your driving skills, and points based on what tricks you’ve done, while you can program it too, giving it an educational edge to go with its high-octane powers. You’ll also be able to customise your little robo pal with a range of accessories and parts, ranging from nubby tyres to clip-on shells, plus there’s even a Bluetooth enabled ramp on the way which you can use to set high scores on. You’ll get an hour of drive time once it’s charged up, giving you plenty of time to whiz it around your house.
If you want to get your hands on one, you haven’t got long to wait: it’s on the way on 15 September for £79.99, and you can pre-order one straight from gosphero.com too, meaning you’ll be able to whiz it around your house in no time at all. See it in action below.
